A little bit about Schucman, Helen
Helen Schucman, Ph.D. (July 14, 1909February 9, 1981) is one of the three primary transcriber-editors of the work known as A Course In Miracles (or ACIM). Her pre-eminent role in the production of this text is often reflected in the mediumistic-spiritualistic ascription scribe. From 1958 through 1976 she was a professor of medical psychology at Columbia University in New York. It was during her years at Columbia University that she began to perform what she referred to as the scribing of ACIM. Her scribing of this work involved a channeling-like process in which she described taking down dictation from an "inner voice" which originally instructed her, "This is a course in miracles. Please take notes." The main transcription process took seven years, from 1965 through 1972, during which time she would take down the notes in shorthand, then each day read back these notes to William Thetford, a colleague at Columbia, who would type them out while she read them. · Can we improve this biography?
